Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki told the story of a group of people taking the illegal donkey route, which is often referred to as ‘Dunki’, to migrate from India to England in order to have a better standard of living. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles, the movie also told the story of the bunch of individuals wanting to return to their homeland. The filmmaker has said that he has been receiving messages from people who took the Dunki route in real life and how the film resonated with them.

Hirani said in a statement,
“I have received/been receiving messages frm individuals who have undertaken Dunki trips – the perilous and often illegal attempts at immigration depicted in the film. People who have been on such Dunki trips have sent very moving messages saying, ‘This is our story… we are missing home.’ So, while making Dunki, I was touched by it – messages from real-life Dunkis.”

Speaking about the aspect of returning back home, Hirani added, “Dunki is a very unique story that sheds light on a very important subject that has never been brought to the big screen in such a manner that resonated with the real-life dunkers. Most of these people leave their homes eventually to come back, nobody leaves a home thinking that (they) will permanently settle there. They are like, ‘We will go there, make money, and come back and retire in my own country’ but most don’t. So, for me, home is a great emotion and that was more inspiring while making Dunki.”

Superstar Shah Rukh Khanis a good sight to cry for. On Monday, the superstar met his fans at a special event to celebrate his three releases of 2023 — Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. A video from the event, which was held at Yash Raj Studio, has now gone viral. The clip shows a fan greeting Shah Rukh Khanon stage, when the superstar hugs and kisses him on his forehead. The fan then breaks down and starts shivering as Shah Rukh keeps holding him gently.

It isn’t audible, but the fan is seen talking to Shah Rukh as he keeps shivering with excitement and is crying. Shah Rukh keeps holding him, as he then poses with him, along with a group of other fans on stage.

The comment section on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram was then full of fans praising the superstar, including those who experienced a similar moment. “Shah took care of me the same way when i got emotional meeting him for the first time ❤,” wrote a fan while another commented, “hat guy’s hand was shivering🥹 I would have done the same and Shah would had a hard time in comforting me😭

Shah Rukh Khan had a historic return at the box office last year with three films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki, which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Though his first two films were all time blockbusters, his social comedy drama Dunki was an underperformer at the box office.

Shah Rukh Khan is yet to announce his lineup as the superstar is said to be in talks with several filmmakers to sign his next. Sujoy Ghosh directed The King, which would mark the big screen debut of Suhana Khan, was set to feature him in a special role, but there is no clarity on whether or not Shah Rukh is going ahead with the project.

Shah Rukh Khan single-handedly collected 2500+ crore at the box office, beating the total collections of Tamil and Telugu films this year!

Shah Rukh Khan has single-handedly revived Bollywood films at the box office; he has also been able to curb the South Indian numbers at the box office, at least for this year. For the past few years, while Bollywood films have struggled at the box office, South Indian films have been growing like a beast at the Hindi box office.

In 2023, SRK decided to unleash his inner demon as he feasted on South Indian films which included biggies like Leo and Jailer, with Pathaan and Jawan breathing fire at the box office. While the films sold like hotcakes at the ticket window, the numbers were unimaginable.

By the end of the year 2023, with three films, Shah Rukh Khan collected 2500+ crore gross worldwide and around 1300+ crore net collection in India. With the gross collection worldwide, the superstar surpassed the total worldwide gross collection of all the Tamil films and all the Telugu films individually.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Golden Run

SRK had a golden run at the box office in 2023, which started with Pathaan, which collected 543.22 crore net in India and 1069.85 crore worldwide. This was followed by Atlee’s Jawan, which collected 640.42 crore in India and 1163.62 crore worldwide. The last release for SRK this year was Dunki, which has collected 211 crore in India and 422.90 crore worldwide. Total Collection by Tamil and Telugu Films

According to various data and figure-tracking sites, in the year 2023, Tamil films collected 2160 crore gross worldwide, and Telugu films collected 2300 crore gross worldwide in their own languages. So, individually, Shah Rukh Khan feasted on these numbers single-handedly with his three releases in 2023.

Interestingly, Bollywood films collected a total gross collection of around 2124 crore abroad. Out of this, Shah Rukh Khan’s contribution with Pathaan’s 412 crore, Jawan’s 406 crore, and Dunki’s 176.78 crore is 994.78 crore. A whopping 46.83% share of the total! Although the superstar is yet to officially announce his next venture, there are various speculations doing the rounds.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, SRK is in talks with Vishal Bhardwaj. The strategy aligns with his intent to consistently amaze audiences through his diverse film selections. The movie is reportedly expected to embody the distinctive style of Vishal Bhardwaj, incorporating the thrilling elements and nuanced shades characteristic of his storytelling.

The source mentioned in the report highlights that Vishal Bhardwaj's cinematic realm differs significantly from Shah Rukh Khan's usual cinematic world and image. Despite the contrast, the actor is willing to embrace the opportunity as it presents a novel experience for him. He has expressed genuine appreciation for the script, and the two are currently engaged in discussions regarding the project.

The report further added that Shah Rukh Khan has consistently made unconventional choices throughout his career. Having previously collaborated with Amol Palekar in 'Paheli,' the actor's venture into Vishal Bhardwaj's world is eagerly anticipated. Despite this, the industry is eagerly awaiting official confirmation from either party soon. However, there has been no official announcement or confirmation about this as yet.

While 'Jawan' starring Shah Rukh Khan had released in 2023 and salman khan's 'Tiger 3' was diwali release. while 'Tiger 3' garnered good numbers at the box office, Jawan emerged as the highest grossing hindi movie of 2023.

SRK broke all the records this year with 'Pathaan' and then later 'Jawan' which set a new benchmark all together. It indeed was SRK's year with three releases. He ended 2023 with 'Dunki' but the film didn't live up to expectations that were set his previous two releases. Meanwhile, another biggie which came in 2023 was Salman Khan starrer 'Tiger 3'. The film was a big Diwali release and fans were waiting for Katrina Kaif and Salman to re-unite on screen.
While 'Tiger 3' did good business at the box office, it didn't match up to 'Pathaan', 'Jawan', 'Gadar 2'. However, cinegoers felt it was quite a good film.

Now 'Kaante' director Sanjay Gupta is of the opinion that things would have been different for 'Tiger 3' had it released before 'Jawan'. The director took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "“I strongly feel that had TIGER 3 come before JAWAN things would have been different. It’s just that Atlee set a whole new benchmark with every scene he shot.

'Tiger 3' had made Rs 450 crore at the box office worldwide after its release. Meanwhile, both 'Jawan' and 'Pathaan' have crossed Rs 1000 crore worldwide gross. 'Jawan' was directed by Atlee and was the highest grossing Indian movie of 2023. Meanwhile 'Tiger 3' was helmed by Maneesh Sharma. The Salman-Katrina starrer which also stars Emraan Hashmi has now begun streaming on OTT.

'Jawan' also starred Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra among others. The film had Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt in cameos. Fans loved to see SRK-DP's chemistry which was one of the major highlights of the movie, despite the fact that Deepika was just seen in a cameo.

With these three releases, SRK had a fantastic 2023. In an interview with a portal from Dubai, SRK had said that he is set to begin shooting his next movie from March/April 2024. While he didn't confirm the film he's going to shoot for, reportedly, he'll be starting with Sujoy Ghosh's next which sees him alongside daughter Suhana Khan.
